Oar Blimey were delighted to join Mansfield Rotary Club where George exhibited the boat and gave an update on their Atlantic Challenge.
President Karen Johnson introduced George, who thanked the members for their kind and generous donation of £250 before sharing a presentation with the membership of volunteers. He covered the key elements of the Atlantic Challenge and explained why Oar Blimey are doing it and how they are preparing for it.
Rowing across the Atlantic Ocean is one of the most difficult endurance challenges on the entire planet and it’s regarded as one of the world’s toughest rows. George shared his and Russ’s expectations (hopes and fears) about the row, and explained how they will work in 2-hour alternating shifts to keep the boat going 24/7…. Eat / Sleep / Row / Repeat!
Oar Blimey are raising funds for the following charities:
- Vicky McClure’s Our Dementia Choir who use music to make a positive difference to people living with dementia.
- Ladybrook Enterprises Ltd (Help at Hand) who have great premises and aspirations of working with local hospitals as a dementia outreach post.
George answered many interesting and inquisitive questions from the membership…and he loved listening to the maritime stories as recalled from the eyes of past sea-going members.
Partner with us, sponsor us or simply donate – every bit of your help and support is extremely welcome and will help Oar Blimey complete the Atlantic Challenge and raise funds to help people live with dementia.
Recognition & Thanks
Mansfield Rotary Club President Karen Johnson and Stuart Rickersay – Thank you for supporting Oar Blimey.
